Spring 1805
Dear Mr. Jefferson,
The journey was the Corps at its best. The journey was America at its best. most of the members definitely came through on helping us to cross the country. There were very few who did not quite pull their own weight. I think that America at its best is the Core of Discovery. I think letting a black slave and a 16 year old Indian girl vote in the year 1805 is America at its best. I think that the way Lewis and Clark treated the Indians is America at its best. I think that just the idea of two 35 year old men crossing the country in canoes is America at its best. I think the fact that two 35 year old men did cross the country is America at its best. now think of the best thing you have ever done and that is America at its best.
Signed T.J. Lewis
P.S. for my weekly labors, discoveries... for all my endeavors have brought this journey. I believe I should be paid the grade of an A.

September 22, 1805,

We were getting too tired of Camas root, (the root that the Indians ate). We killed one of our horses to eat but we were still hungry. We went to trade with the Indians and when we did we traded a bunch of our stuff for dogs. Yes, we actually ate dogs. and OH MY GOD THEY WERE SSSOOOOOO DELICIOUS. It was some of the best meat I have ever tasted. (besides buffalo). Seaman didn't want any. (big surprise.) can't wait till we get to the ocean.

September 7th 1805,

We came across three Indian mounts today. We learned that they were from the Nez Perce or Nee-mee-poo. Nee-mee-poo literally means "the people" They explained that they were hunting some Shoshones who had stolen good horses from their village. So we asked them to pleas take us to their village so we may trade with them. it took a wile for us to convince them but eventually they took us to the village.

We got to the great falls today. They are truly beautiful. I am happy that the captains chose the right river. the falls are so beautiful that it is hard to put into words. we are still running into grizzlies so we need to keep an eye out. Also we are keeping our eyes out for the Shoshones, (Sagaweeas home tribe). It is turning out to be quite the adventure.

today we ran into a little problem. Well, not really little, a problem that will decide our fate on this voyage. Do you want to know what it is? we ran into a fork in the river. this fork was unexpected and so we don't know which one is the Missouri. captain Lewis and captain Clark have taken two parties to find out which one is truly the Missouri we will wait here and build dugout canoes. I hope they dont choos the wrong one!!!

February 11 1805,
The newest and youngest member of the corp of Discovery joined us today!!! Jean Baptiste (little Pmop) was born today! Sacajawea had a long hard labor but finally it was over. However, her husband Charbonneau brought only troubles to the team and I feel he was only hired
because of his wife.

today we killed our first grizzly bear!!! They are huge and strong, and I could see why the Indians didn't want to get to close. it took nearly 6 musket balls (two of which were through the head to kill the beast. They are brown and sometimes have white tips on the end of their fur giving them that grizzled look. Their huge claws are about 4 in long!!! and they weigh 300-700 pounds. I think I'll keep my distance in the future.

September 6th,
This morning we had a delicious corn bread. It was filling and a sign of how plentiful the land is. Here is the recipe!
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
a cup all-purpose flour
preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly oil a 9-9in pan.
In a bowl, cream together the sugar and the butter until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk and stir into the creamed mixture. In a separate bowl, combine the cornmeal, baking powder and salt. Add to the creamed mixture and stir until well blended. Add the flour and stir well. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

August 5, 1804,
we have been seeing a lot of little birds along the Missouri River. but today we got a good look at one. it has a small black tipped yellow bill, a relatively fast wing beat and a mostly white body. it is called the Least Tern. They are really pretty and we are sending one back to the president.

May 30, 1804, wolves spotted in the forest! We saw a pack of wolves prowling around our campsite today. They were pretty but we stayed clear, but not too far a way to gather information. We figured out that they are a large canine ranging from white to black in color. They are about 26–38 in tall and 26–38 in long. I just hope I don’t run into one of them close up.

June 13, 1804, Raccoon Spotted!! Today we saw a raccoon in a tree near the Chariton River. They are a grey medium sized rodent that has a black band around its eyes. It has a long white fury tail with approximately 6 black rings around it.

July 3, 1804, Today we saw a Missouri Beaver along the river banks it is a large rotund rodent with a long flat tail and brown fur. They are 3-4ft long and weigh bout 44–60 lb. we saw the beaver swimming near the river bank. We went over to check it out and discovered that it was a new species. It was very exiting!

My Mess
I can’t wait to join the corps of ReDiscovery!!! I think that it will be fun.
I think Dan will be of use for his attitude and because he is a tireless worker. He hopes to discover new places, new weather and new foods.
I think Sophie's positive mood and ability to learn new languages quickly could help when we meet other people. She hopes to find journals of old tribes or jewelry from Indians.
Christians brave demeanor will surly help if we should get into a sticky situation along the way. He hopes to collect some music along the way.
Kendall sounds like the best person we could have on the trip if we need any thing documented or re sewn. She seems interested in finding cloths and fabric along the way.
Jonathan is a really funny person who apparently likes to play around with hot sauce and lemonade. He hopes to discover recipes, food, forms of currency, music and artwork on our journey.
Skyler's accuracy with a gun and ability to successfully scavenge for medicinal herbs and plants should prove useful if one of us gets sick or we need to find food. He is hoping to find new herbs.
Chuck's skills in communicating with new people, being good with young children, and fashion will probably prove useful on our trip across America. They will be useful when we meat new people (like the workers at in-n-out) and another fashion designer couldn’t ruin any thing. She would hope to collect samples of their clothing.
Mary's musical skills will surly be uplifting while on our journey. She would hope to collect new foods, new animals and a variety of different art Medias.
I think that Drew's skills at magic will be an uplifter to the team in times of hardship. He hopes to collect children and videogames.
Nick has promised to keep every one happy by starting games and being entertaining. He hopes to collect music, samples of fashion and style, religions and beliefs, languages, and survival skills.
Marandah's skills at taking action photographs will prove useful if we come across an animal or something that moves fast. She hopes to collect fashion styles.

Introduction
Dear
I can’t wait to be part of the Corps of ReDiscovery. Talents I will bring to the group include computer tech, video and film experience and creative building. I have a knack for building things that work for a very inexpensive price. I have a very creative mind that’s always racing to a new idea. Problem solving, fishing and cooking are also skills of mine. I love to cook and I will always find a good reason to cook something for others, especially dessert. I always have a ready mind, sense of humor (you always have to be ready for a sarcastic joke from me), creativity and just plain awesomeness.

My endeavor on the trip of the Corps of ReDiscovery is to collect drawings, and some observations and enjoy the wonders of architecture. I also hope to collect some interesting films, drawings and photos of animals. I would also like to see the real thing, too. I have a particular interest in marine animals. I have always loved animals and I am very interested about them. I can’t wait to be part of the Corps of ReDiscovery!!!
